Gilbert KENNETT (1893- )
1 Gilbert Edward KENNETT (1893- ) [9477]. Born 1 Oct 1893, Rochester, Kent.
In 1901 he was living at 31 Colegate Ferry Crescent, Nr. Rochester, Kent with his parents and a brother. He was 7 years old.
He became a railway clerk in 1909 and worked in Wandsworth, Lewisham, Battersea Park, and Dartford in 1914 then LDSO and Brixton in 1914.
He enlisted to fight in the first world war on 5th August 1916.
He returned to the railway on 1st March 1922 as a relief clerk.

In 1871 he was living in Railway Station House, Adisham, Kent with his father and mother (his father's second wife Elizabeth), 2 brothers and 4 sisters. He was 3 years old. Also living with them was Basil Bushell aged 14 from Maldon, Essex, a Telegraph Clerk.
In 1891 he was living in Rochester, Kent with his wife Laura. He was 23 years old and a Clerk.
In 1901 he was living at 31 Colegate Ferry Crescent, Nr.Rochester, Kent with his wife Laura and 2 sons. He was 33 years old and a Railway Clerk.
At the time of his marriage he lived at 9 Grosvenor Park, Newington.

Marr Elizabeth SADDLER 3 Jan 1865, London (St.Pancras). Marr Sarah Ann POTTS 1872, Bridge, Canterbury, Kent. Died 7 Dec 1885, Strood, Kent. Cause: Heart disease and paralysis of the lungs.
In 1871 he lived at Railway Station House, Adisham, Kent.
In 1848 George was the Superintendent.
In 1851 he and Caroline were living in Old Brentford, Ealing with two children and his two orphaned nieces, Annie and Emily Hilton.
Caroline and George moved to Co. Down and then to Passage West, County Cork, a town just outside Cork sometime after the summer of 1851, but were back in England living at 7 Edwin Place, Park Road, Peckham in 1858.
George was “lately a Traffic Manager on a Railway”.
At that time of his second marraige, he was a railway clerk living at 35 Weedington Road, Pancras.
In 1866 George was a Station Master in Queenborough, Sheppey.
The family moved to Adisham in 1867.
He left a Will leaving everything to Sarah Ann. His estate was worth £90.
Sarah, his widow remarried, and in 1891 and had become Mrs. Ashley. Her husband was a naval pensioner nearly twenty years older than herself. Their address was 27 Crofs Street, Strood. Her step-grandson, George aged 7 was a visitor in the house, there was also a boarder.

Gilbert was a Post Boy, working from The Ship Inn, Faversham from the birth of his son John in 1815 till somewhere between 1825 and 1828, when he became an ostler.
Gilbert and Ann ran the White Horse Pub in West Street, Faversham from 1832-34 according to Piggotts National and Commercial Directory but they could have been in residence there for longer than that.
Gilbert became the landlord of the Golden Lion Pub in the High Street at Gillingham, Kent in 1838 till his retirement sometime after 1851.
On the 1851 census Gilbert William was a licensed victualler aged 59, his wife Sarah was 57 years old. They were living at 54 High St. Gillingham, with them was Dinah Wood, Gilbert’s step daughter.

It is possible that John received between 2 shillings and 6 pence and 5 shillings from the parish for some years between 1780 and 1794.
