1 Anna Maria Caroline HILTON (1843-1868) [10718]. Born 19 Sep 1843, Elham, Kent. Christened 19 Sep 1843, Hythe, Kent. Died 22 Jun 1868, Deal, Kent. Cause: T.B.

In 1851 she was living with George her uncle and his wife Caroline and their family in Old Brentford Ealing.

In 1861 she was at a boarding school at 8 Golden Street, Deal and was listed as a ‘scholar’.

There was a coroner’s report which no longer exists, however the local Dover Telegraph newspaper carried the news. George Hilton took to drink after his wife died and finally killed himself with rat poison.

6 Gilbert William KENNETT (1791-1854) [8705]. Born 1791, Boughton under Blean, Faversham, Kent. Christened 15 Apr 1792, Boughton under Blean, Faversham, Kent. Marr Ann JUDGE 30 Aug 1814, Faversham, Kent. Marr Sarah WOOD 30 Aug 1842, Gillingham, Kent. Died 15 Jun 1854, Gillingham, Kent. Cause: General Debility.

Gilbert was a Post Boy, working from The Ship Inn, Faversham from the birth of his son John in 1815 till somewhere between 1825 and 1828, when he became an ostler.

Gilbert and Ann ran the White Horse Pub in West Street, Faversham from 1832-34 according to Piggotts National and Commercial Directory but they could have been in residence there for longer than that.

Gilbert became the landlord of the Golden Lion Pub in the High Street at Gillingham, Kent in 1838 till his retirement sometime after 1851.

On the 1851 census Gilbert William was a licensed victualler aged 59, his wife Sarah was 57 years old. They were living at 54 High St. Gillingham, with them was Dinah Wood, Gilbert’s step daughter.

It is possible that John received between 2 shillings and 6 pence and 5 shillings from the parish for some years between 1780 and 1794.
